Pacific students can take advantage of free student tickets to music events coming this fall to the iconic Faye Spanos Concert Hall on the Stockton Campus. Just a few steps from your dorm or study hall, you can hear renowned artists who have performed all around the world.
And did we mention that students get in free? (A valid student ID is required.)
Fall concert lineup
Three world class chamber music ensembles will play on campus this fall. On September 18, experience the Adaskin String Trio combining the talents of Canada’s most distinguished musicians. One of the world’s most renowned string quartets Cuarteto Latinoamericano will perform on October 23. Internationally recognized Trio Zimbalist from Philadelphia is slated for November 13.
The artists have been invited to Stockton by Friends of Chamber Music (FOCM) which is now in its 62nd continuous season. Every year, it presents five concerts at Pacific, three in the fall and two in spring.
“Pacific’s Conservatory of Music is proud to partner with the Friends of Chamber Music in bringing world class chamber musicians to our campus,” said Jonathan Latta, Associate Professor of Practice in Percussion and Program Director of Ensembles. “It is a wonderful experience for our students in learning from these amazing performers.”
Stay for the Q&A
Expertly executed beautiful music is the main focus of these events, but there is more. Dwane Milnes, the FOCM president, encourages the audience to stay after the concerts for a 30-minute Q and A with the artists.
“This is the time when you can really connect with the artists,” Milnes said. “You can hear first-hand about what it’s like to be a musician, what it takes to rehearse and live on the road, or why they decided to perform this specific music at the recital.”
Before inviting them, FOCM selects the ensembles very carefully. They look for recipients of national awards lauded for their performances but also willing to educate the audience. The concerts are intended to please chamber music enthusiasts and novices alike.
Anyone who would like to get a peek behind the scenes and learn more about chamber music techniques can participate in a master class with the Trio Zimbalist after the concert on November 13 at Pacific’s Recital Hall.
